About Us:
Greenjets is an innovative engineering company developing high-performance propulsion systems for the aviation market. Our work spans research and development, engine production, aircraft systems, technical integration and flight testing. We are committed to delivering high-grade engineering and best-in-class propulsion for unmanned aircraft.
We do things differently. We move fast, we experiment and we adopt technologies that push beyond the current state of the art. Our aim is to go further, faster and more efficiently, while keeping costs competitive.
All our propulsion systems are designed, developed and manufactured in the UK. We focus on high quality, reliable and cost effective products supported by a robust, secure and ethical supply chain.
About the Job:
Greenjets is seeking a Principal Electrical Systems Engineer / Head of Powertrain to take technical ownership of our electrical powertrain architecture and its integration into propulsion and aircraft systems.
What You'll Do:
This is a senior engineering role, based in Germany, intended for an experienced engineer with deep expertise in electrical power systems for aerospace, UAS or similarly demanding applications.
You will be responsible for defining and governing the electrical powertrain architecture, from system-level requirements down to component selection and integration. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with responsibility for setting engineering direction, ensuring technical coherence across projects and supporting the maturation of products from prototype through to production.
You will work closely with mechanical, controls, software, production and test teams, and act as a key technical authority within the business. The role requires comfort operating in an environment where systems are evolving and engineering judgement is critical.
You will lead the electrical design and integration of propulsion systems, ensuring that electrical, mechanical, thermal and control aspects are coherently addressed. You will support detailed design activities, including schematics, wiring architectures, grounding strategies, EMC considerations and component selection.
You will provide technical leadership across development programmes, supporting design reviews, troubleshooting complex system issues and guiding engineering teams through critical decisions. You will ensure that designs are robust, manufacturable and suitable for operation in harsh and safety-critical environments.
You will work closely with test and flight-test teams to define test strategies, analyse results and iterate designs. You will also support the transition from prototype builds to low-rate and series production, including engagement with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:
You will have extensive experience in electrical powertrain or electrical systems engineering within aerospace, unmanned systems, automotive, motorsport or similarly demanding sectors. You will have demonstrated responsibility for system-level electrical architectures and their successful delivery.
You will have strong technical expertise in areas such as high-power electrical systems, batteries and energy storage, power electronics, motor drives, HV/LV distribution, protection concepts and system safety considerations. Experience with EMC/EMI, grounding and certification-relevant design practices is important.
Experience leading technical work packages or acting as a technical authority is expected. Prior experience supporting production ramp-up or working closely with manufacturing and supply chains is advantageous.
Fluency in English is required. German language skills are highly desirable, particularly for coordination with local partners and suppliers.
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to obtain relevant security clearance and be able to work with export-controlled technologies in accordance with national and international regulations.
