About Us:
Greenjets is an innovative engineering company developing high-performance propulsion systems for the aviation market. Our work spans research and development, engine production, aircraft systems, technical integration and flight testing. We are committed to delivering high-grade engineering and best-in-class propulsion for unmanned aircraft.
We do things differently. We move fast, we experiment and we adopt technologies that push beyond the current state of the art. Our aim is to go further, faster and more efficiently, while keeping costs competitive.
All our propulsion systems are designed, developed and manufactured in the UK. We focus on high quality, reliable and cost effective products supported by a robust, secure and ethical supply chain.
About the Job:
We are seeking a Propulsion Aerodynamicist to lead aerodynamic design, analysis, and performance optimisation of small gas turbines, electric ducted fans, and integrated propulsion architectures.
This role requires strong turbomachinery aerodynamic expertise combined with practical, multidisciplinary problem-solving. You will contribute across concept design, CFD modelling, rig testing, system integration, and performance validation in a highly collaborative SME environment.
What You'll Do:
Aerodynamic Design & Analysis
Develop aerodynamic concepts for fans, compressors, turbines, exhausts, and flowpath components.
Conduct CFD studies covering:
Blade design and optimisation
Flowpath shaping
Boundary layer behaviour
Stall and surge margins
Cooling flow (where applicable)
Optimise EDF rotor–stator systems for thrust, efficiency, noise, and manufacturability.
Provide aero loads, pressure distributions, and flow intent to mechanical and thermal teams.
Performance Prediction & Modelling
Develop 0D/1D cycle models for gas turbines and EDF propulsion units.
Generate performance maps for fans, compressors, micro-turbines, and free-power turbines.
Characterise system behaviour across mission profiles (static thrust, climb, loiter, high-speed flight).
Test Support & Data Reduction
Support commissioning of:
Bench tests
Fan rig tests
Gas turbine core tests
Full propulsion system tests
Define instrumentation requirements and test matrices.
Analyse test data, correlate CFD and performance models, and refine designs accordingly.
Integration & Installation Aerodynamics
Assess installation effects including:
Inlet distortion
Jet plume interaction
Embedded vs podded installations
Aero-structural and aero-thermal trade-offs
Collaborate with airframe partners to optimise propulsor–vehicle integration across the flight envelope.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Work closely with mechanical, thermal, electrical, and systems engineers.
Provide aerodynamic input to trade-offs involving:
Efficiency
Mass
Noise
Thermal signatures
Manufacturability
R&D & Innovation
Drive innovation in:
High-performance EDF aerodynamics
Additive-manufacturable blade geometries
Tip treatments and shroud strategies
Cooling flow optimisation
Explore novel concepts for compact, high-efficiency turbomachinery.
Documentation & Certification Support
Produce CFD reports, performance summaries, and design documentation.
Support structured design reviews (SRR / PDR / CDR).
Contribute to safety assessments and requirements decomposition.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:
Degree (MEng / PhD preferred) in Aerodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Turbomachinery, or related field.
Strong proficiency in CFD tools (ANSYS CFX / Fluent, Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM or equivalent).
Experience in turbomachinery aerodynamics, including:
Blade loss mechanisms
Rotor–stator interactions
Tip leakage
Stall/surge behaviour
Experience with electric propulsion, micro-gas turbines, or hybrid systems.
